FIMRC Celebrates World Values Day

WORLD VALUES DAY

This year, October 15th marks World Values Day, a day in which we are asked to acknowledge that which is important to us. This day asks those around the world to showcase their values, the beliefs that make up the foundation of our everyday decision making, and how we show up for them. 

Values, at their core, are the factors that motivate, drive, and inspire us each and every day. By acknowledging World Values Day, the world, as a collective, is asked to take a step back from our everyday life, ask ourselves what our values are, and how we could put those values into action. If we each took this step, we could not only change our own lives but the lives of those around us.  

At FIMRC, we strive to operate with our values in mind, which is why we make it a priority to provide adequate access to global healthcare and instill practices that are sustainable for each community we visit, so we know they’re well taken care of even when we’re not there. 

OUR VALUES

FIMRC has three main values, or pillars, that we follow in our day-to-day operations including access, education, and participation. These are at the core of how FIMRC operates and continues to operate at our various project sites around the world. 

Access: FIMRC works to ensure that the communities we serve have the necessary access to a healthcare professional, and if there is no infrastructure present when we arrive, our team builds it. 

Education: FIMRC works alongside various partners, governments, and community members building health education programs that are tailored to each communities’ needs. 

Participation: FIMRC engages with communities, volunteers, donors, and partners in order to improve healthcare around the world. These partnerships help to make our mission a reality. 

WHY WORLD VALUES DAY?

World Values Day is an annual campaign that aims to raise awareness of various values throughout the world, and how to implement them. World Values Day offers us a chance to get clear on what our values are, and how we would like to see them reflected in the world. 

Each year has a specific theme related to values. Last year’s theme was “values and wellbeing,” while this year’s theme is focused on “values in action.” This theme calls on us to not only acknowledge our values, but to get clear on what action steps we can take in order to make them a reality.  

FIMRC PUTS VALUES INTO ACTION

It’s easy to state what one’s values are, but true change comes when we take action. That is why at FIMRC, our three values are at the forefront of everything that we do. We serve a multitude of communities around the globe, operating ten project sites located in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. 

We get to know each community so we know how to better serve them, and this way, our services are tailored to each communities’ needs. At FIMRC, we not only believe in access to proper healthcare but education as well. This is why at each of our project sites, we implement clinical activities, health education programs, workshops, and special initiatives. 

This year, our action to continue implementing our values came when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. With international travel being brought to a halt, our action steps needed to change. FIMRC moved to offer virtual programs, allowing for our team and volunteers to continue doing what we believe in, providing healthcare to those in need, even when times get tough. 

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

This year, FIMRC encourages you to get involved in World Values Day. Get clear on what it is you believe in, and research what action steps you could take that would help make your values a reality.
